T A STEWART is a journalist and historian who has worked as a news reporter, features writer and music critic on a number of newspapers in Central Scotland, including The Herald. She was also a researcher and tutor for a period at Glasgow Caledonian University. Her primary area of interest is the social history of crime in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
